City to host Rail Summit

The City of Cape Town will host a Rail Summit, with a view to developing a Rail Action Plan to be included in the five-year Comprehensive Integrated Transport Plan.

The City’s Executive Mayor, Alderman Patricia de Lille; the Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Roads and Stormwater, Councillor Brett Herron; and the Executive Director for Transport, Roads and Stormwater, Melissa Whitehead will deliver addresses at the summit.

The media are invited to attend the morning session of the summit.

Venue:       Council Chamber, 6th floor, Podium Block, Civic Centre, Hertzog Boulevard

The summit seeks to:

  • Elicit views and perspectives from leading role-players on the immediate action agenda;
  • Establish the climate for partnerships at the inter-governmental and stakeholder level;
  • Facilitate the establishment of a single point of authority for integrated transport systems and operations across the city;
  • Develop an Action Plan for the next five years;
  • Agree upon the mandate to the City and protocols for the integration of rail- and road-based scheduled public transport.
