No Shark Spotters on duty on Monday 15 May

The Shark Spotters’ team will be attending advanced safety training on Monday 15 May 2017, and will not be on duty at any of Cape Town’s beaches for the day.

Shark Spotters' operations will resume on Tuesday 16 May 2017, as usual.

The City is committed to ensuring safer beach-going experiences for visitors, hence the reason for the advanced training of employees of the Shark Spotters Programme.

‘The City has approved the request by the Shark Spotters Programme to suspend their operations for the day as we believe that enhancing their safety skills is to the betterment of the service and will be beneficial to our beach-goers.

‘Residents who plan to visit the beach on Monday are encouraged to be vigilant and take the necessary safety precautions. All Shark Spotter operations will resume on Tuesday 16 May 2017, as per normal,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Area South, Councillor Eddie Andrews.

‘One of our priorities with the City’s new Organisational Development and Transformation Plan is to create safe communities and training initiatives like this ensure that our staff are well-equipped to do just that,’ said Councillor Andrews.
