Recycling Tetra Pak in Cape Town

Up until now the general perception of Tetra Pak (the cartons in which one buys fruit juice, long-life milk, custard etc) is that they cannot be recycled.

The good news is that they can be recycled, provided you are prepared to make the effort to wash and take them to various collection points around the city yourself

– it shouldn't be too difficult as there are enough drop-offs to find one relatively close to you.

The actual recycling of Tetra Pak takes place in Durban, but there are now 18 collection points around Cape Town where one can now drop them off. The more we recycle our Tetra Paks, the more likely that further collection points will result – hopefully in time there will even be rural collections. So spread the word and let others know about them!

Drop-off points in Cape Town include Kuils River, Bellville, Table View, Green Point, Constantia, the City Bowl, Hout Bay and Salt River. For the full list of all 18 collection points or drop-offs click here. Over time, the City of Cape Town anticipates that further drop-offs will be set up.
