To Simon's Town on the Southern Line Tourism Route
When you are making arrangements for your weekend plans, consider taking the train to access the False Bay Coastline. The Southern Line Tourism Route is an affordable daily train pass that gives you access to attractions of seven different stations. These include Cape Town, Observatory, Newlands, Muizenburg, Kalk Bay, Fish Hoek, and Simon’s Town Station. This route also gives gorgeous views along the False Bay Coastline. You can board the train at any of the following stops, and purchase tickets at the station kiosk. You can access the train timetables here.

Once you arrive in Simon's Town you are a few kilometers walk to Boulder's Beach where there is a thriving colony of African Penguins. If you are not up for the walk you can also take a local taxi to Boulder's Beach. The penguins are best viewed from Foxy Beach where boardwalks take visitors within a few metres of the birds. For more information about Boulder's Beach please visit the SANParks website.

Very fond memories
We were lucky enough to be in Cape Town at the end of 2011. Staying the Strand, we drow out to Simon's Town for a day trip. It was a destination I last visited as a child and it was good fun to actually see it again and be able to show all the beautiful sites to my children this time around.
Going for a swim at Boulder Beach after seeing the pengiuns up close in the reserve area, we didn't even imagine running into more of them. It was lovely taking a swim and having these cute little birds all around us.
On this trip I took a few hundred photos as well and got my love for photography back on track BIG TIME.
Hopefully I can do more of the "get back to Cape Town" part as well! The last time around we didn't manage to get to Cape Point and I would love to go through Simon's Town again and then on to Cape Point the next time we are there.
The photos are great and
The photos are great and those penguins are sooo cute! Hope I can visit Cape Town soon :)
Cape Town To Simonstown Train
I must say that I like your article and the great Cape Town photos you share. They are amazing. The Bruce Sutherland photo of the Cape Town to Simons's Town train is impressive.
Now wonder that Alantic Rail is doing great work with their Steam Train from Cape Town to Simon's Town.
MelindaL..the only issue I have as the travel distance between the Simon's Town station the Simonstown village and the real walk to the penguins. I know there are taxis but people don't expect this. How do you feel about it?
