Table Mountain - a new wonder - vote for it!
At last glance, Table Mountain's live ranking in the top 77 official new7wonders of nature nominees was number 28 and rising. 261 qualified national and multinational nominees are busy competing to make it to the top 77. At the end of the road, there will be only seven – make sure Table Mountain is one of them!
Before you click here to vote, be warned that you can't just vote for one wonder of nature, you will need to vote for seven – and they can't all be Table Mountain.
So stop and have a look at the various wonders of nature that are grouped in seven groups: landscapes and ice formations; islands; mountains and volcanoes (that's where we come in!); caves, rock formations and valleys; forests, national parks and nature reserves; lakes, rivers and waterfalls; and finally seascapes.
In number one position
in each of the seven categories (and this could change at any moment!) are:
Landscapes, ice formations: Oesling in Luxembourg; a region of hills and large deciduous forests that covers 32% of the territory of Luxembourg
Islands: Ulithi is an atoll (a reef enclosing a lagoon) in the Caroline Islands of the western Pacific Ocean that consists of 40 islets that combine to make 4.5 kilometres
Mountains, volcanoes: Yu Shan is a central mountain range in Chinese Taipei that forms part of the Yu Shan National Park. It is also known as Jade Mountain and stands 3,952 metres above sea level.
Caves, rock formations, valleys: Djavolja Varos is a group of earth pyramids in the Radan Mountains in Serbia (really unusual formations and the name means “devil's town”)
Forests, national parks, nature reserves: Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park lies in the Philippines, featuring a limestone karst mountain landscape with an 8.2 kilometre navigable underground river.
Lakes, rivers, waterfalls: Lake Titicaca in Bolivia/Peru is the highest commercially navigable lake in the world. It is also the largest lake in South America.
Seascape: Ha Long Bay in Vietnam features thousands of limestone karsts and isles in various shapes and sizes. Several of the islands are hollow, with enormous caves.
