Depending on where you live in Cape Town there are different ways in which you can recycle.
Think Twice
Think Twice is the City of Cape Town's free door-to-door recycling collection programme. Residents and Businesses within certain pilot areas participate voluntarily in a two-bag system for their solid waste. People are asked to think twice about how they dispose of their waste, and instead of simply dumping it all together in one black bag, to separate the recyclable material from the non-recyclable waste within their homes and places of work.
The recycling collection service is provided by City appointed contractors to homes and businesses in the following areas:
Gordon’s Bay, Strand, Somerset West, Macassar, Hout Bay, Camp’s Bay, Fresnaye, Bantry Bay, Clifton, Pinelands, Parklands, Melkbosstrand and Bloubergstrand (service provided by Wasteplan), Sea Point, (service provided by Salt River Recycling)
Green Point, Mouille Point and Three Anchor Bay (service by Mandla Recycling)
City of Cape Town waste drop-off points
Household or garden waste can be dropped off in between waste collection days at any of the City’s 20 drop-off facilities.
Up to 1 500kg (1,5 tons) of non-hazardous waste may be disposed at these sites, at no cost. Green garden waste is then chipped and composted, while builder’s rubble is crushed for re-use.
Some drop-off sites also provide facilities for recycling of residential special waste such as tins, glass, paper, plastics, oil and electronic waste (such as old computers and cell phones). Waste that is not recyclable or re-useable is then transported to the landfill for disposal.

Private recycling drop-off points
There are many private recycling drop-off points around Cape Town. Sites include schools, shopping centres, charities and recently Engen filling stations (partnering with Woolworths) and BP filling stations (partnering with PicknPay).

Private recycling collection services
If you are not in a Think Twice pilot area, private companies can be paid a small monthly fee to collect recycling from your home.
