Vendor Artist Thabisa Xwethu features in The Big Issue #322, the Big Feel-Good Issue, which is on sale right NOW!

Big Issue vendors enjoy art sessions hosted by Art Facilitator, Elaine Millin.

After a recent spike in violence and taxi strikes, the class decided to focus on prayer flags – finding a nature image to express prayers for themselves and others.

Thabisa Xwethu is 30 years old, she grew up in Nyanga township Cape Town staying with her aunt. She attended I.D. Mkhize high school in Gugulethu. She attended some art classes at the Peter Clarke Art Centre while at school. She now lives with her twelve year old daughter and one year old son. She enjoys cooking during her spare time. She likes participating in the art sessions at The Big Issue and wants to develop her skills.

Thabisa has trained and received a security certificate. Her painting is titled: Happy Bird
