The Prestwich Memorial is the result of an urban planning mistake. When digging started in this area, a mass grave was uncovered dating back to the early colonial period. A decision was made to commemorate the dead with this memorial as they had been buried without any name or notice. The memorial centre hosts some exhibitions.
