Burgherspost Wine Estate and its sister farm, Cloof Wine Estate, were awarded Championship status with the Biodiversity and Wine Initiative in 2006, and have maintained their commitment to sustainability ever since.
These wine farms have taken many steps to conserve the pristine natural vegetation in the area, and to rehabilitate previously cultivated areas. They also meet very strict standards in terms of the potential environmental impact of vineyard and cellar activities.
The estates have established a 1200ha wild flower conservancy in collaboration with CapeNature, and have initiated an alien plant clearing programme.
