This beautiful bird-watching spot in Strand is home to many species of indigenous birds, and entry is free.
The Dick Dent Bird Sanctuary is a natural wetland, formerly a wastewater treatment works until it was declared a bird sanctuary. The Lourens River runs alongside the sanctuary, and this is where many coastal and wading birds make their habitat. It was also recently declared a Locally Important Bird Area (LIBA) by The Western Cape Birding Forum.
