Seal Island in False Bay is a landmass that lies 5.7 km off the shores of Cape Town. This island supports the largest Cape fur seal colony in the Western Cape. The seals attract great white sharks, and an ecotourism industry to view these sharks is slowly developing.
Seal Island also supports a small population of African penguins. Other bird species which breed regularly on the island are white-breasted cormorants and bank cormorants. A number of Cape Town tour operators offer boat tours out to the island, to view the wildlife and birds.
