The Steenbras Nature Reserve forms part of the greater Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve, and the area is often called “the heart of the fynbos”. The area supports five different vegetation types and is regarded as one of the world’s biodiversity hotspots. There are more than 1600 plant species in the reserve, giving it the greatest floral diversity per unit area anywhere in the world.
The Steenbras Nature Reserve conserves a number of vegetation types including the critically endangered Kogelberg sandstone fynbos. It is also home to a variety of birds and animals, including six endemic bird species. Visitors will spot small antelope, porcupines, dassies and caracals among other fascinating creatures in the reserve.
