City Libraries and recreation centres in Cape Town are ready to welcome hundreds of young holiday makers to programmes designed to not only keep them entertained, but also active, starting on Friday 26 June 2026.
- Library events include cookie making, coding and reading challenges.
The Recreation and Parks Department’s programme is packed with activities and include sports and indoor games. It will take place at recreation facilities, including community centres, sport grounds, play parks, green spaces and other facilities.
The programmes give children and young people constructive – and safe - ways to spend their school break, while making use of City facilities close to home.
‘This winter holidays can be an opportunity to find a new hobby, have fun or learn a new skill. Our libraries and recreation facilities are offering activities that keep young people active during the school break. I encourage parents and caregivers to look at the programme closest to them and help young people make the most of the holidays,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham.
You can view the full list of holiday programmes on the City’s website or contact their nearest public library or recreation facility for more information.
